With busy two game weeks, tests, homework, and other extracurriculars, Centre student-athletes are learning how to handle the highest of highs and lowests of lows in high school.
The Lady Cougars are powering through the season with an 8-2 record. With their only losses being against South East of Saline and Gossel, I’d say the Cougars have a very promising season ahead. I met up with Shelby Makovec yesterday to talk her about how the team is coming together and their goals for the upcoming tournament and league. She said, “ The team has great chemistry and is looking to be very competitive in the Cougar Classic. The season should end on a strong note as we are hoping to place in the top two in the Wheat State League.”
The boys are following behind with a 1-9 record. Although this could seem like a never-ending season, I talked to Jared Barney, who seems to still be very optimistic. He stated, “Practice has been good and there has been good moral from everyone on the team.” Jared is looking forward to the Cougar Classic but is not excited for the first round match up against Sacred Heart. He is also hoping the team can pull together and power through sub-state.
The Centre Cougars seem to be on their way through an exciting and tough year. Congrats to the boys on receiving their first win last Friday against Rural Vista! We wish you luck and can’t wait to write more exciting stories.
