Has anyone ever made a really big impact on your life? Well today I want to talk about how teachers impact a lot of students’ lives in many different ways. I sent out an email to see what students would say. Ally Basore wrote me back telling me the following “Teachers that have strongly impacted my life have been my science teachers Mrs. Wiles, Mr. Duerksen, and Mrs. Riedel. Since I will be pursuing a career in a science field, I am particularly blessed to have had such influential and encouraging science teachers. They have challenged me to question, problem solve, and discover through a variety of scientific curriculums.”

From bright 70-degree days, to cold and windy 40-degree days, this weather is throwing students and faculty through an immune system break down. When walking through the school I heard comments of it being like a ghost town as there were almost 35 people gone from the school by Wednesday afternoon. When we got to lunch half of the tables were empty and it was unusually quiet.
It seems some people are gone for three to four days at a time or come bouncing back just after one. Some simples steps in order to help yourself stay healthy are to (1) wash hands frequently, (2) eat a healthy diet especially rich in C and E, (3) get a good nights sleep and (4) stay hydrated as best as possible. May the odds ever be in your favor(: Cassidy Hill Friday night’s games of the Cougar Classic were thrilling and great wins for the Cougars to pick up. It was different walking into the gym as merely a spectator instead of a player but I was glad to be able to root on my fellow classmates and friends. Pep sections are great for bringing people together, all yelling for the same purpose and having a great time bringing your friends to a victory on the court. That’s what happened that night; it was loud and we were coming together as a mass roar to push out the other team. I’m sure the fans sitting next to us didn’t appreciate the loudness, as they were leaning away and plugging their ears, but we sure had a great time and I guess that showed we were doing our job. There is a burning atmosphere and tradition here at Centre High School filled with kind and well-rounded students, parents and staff. I believe that is why the Cougar Classic will forever be my favorite tournament of the season. The girls and boys were both on the podium with wins that night. Congrats to the Lady Cougars for winning the Cougar Classic two years in a row! Cassidy Hill The end of a frustrating start of the season happened on Friday night as the Centre boys won over Rural Vista with a score of 51 to 46. They played an exceptional game and the crowd was on fire. Even with questionable calls from the officials, the team was still able to pull through. It only takes two people to start a pep section, and I am so very glad that Connor Montgomery and Barrett Smith did so. Head Coach Greg Wyatt wanted “to thank the cheerleaders, pep club, and the crowd tonight for the energy they brought to the game as the boys fed off that energy and gave it all they had.” The atmosphere Friday night was something that hasn’t been seen for a very long time. I’ve heard comments from faculty and students that stated it was like the old days and they were happy to be involved and ready to bring the Cougars to victory. Congratulations to the Centre boys and good luck in the Cougar Classic Tournament.

The Lady Cougars are powering through the season with an 8-2 record. With their only losses being against South East of Saline and Gossel, I’d say the Cougars have a very promising season ahead. I met up with Shelby Makovec yesterday to talk her about how the team is coming together and their goals for the upcoming tournament and league. She said, “ The team has great chemistry and is looking to be very competitive in the Cougar Classic. The season should end on a strong note as we are hoping to place in the top two in the Wheat State League.” The boys are following behind with a 1-9 record. Although this could seem like a never-ending season, I talked to Jared Barney, who seems to still be very optimistic. He stated, “Practice has been good and there has been good moral from everyone on the team.” Jared is looking forward to the Cougar Classic but is not excited for the first round match up against Sacred Heart. He is also hoping the team can pull together and power through sub-state. The Centre Cougars seem to be on their way through an exciting and tough year. Congrats to the boys on receiving their first win last Friday against Rural Vista! We wish you luck and can’t wait to write more exciting stories. Cassidy Hill Hello Readers,
How have you been since we last talked? Well today let’s talk about how the play tryouts are coming along. There are 27 students trying out for the play. The play auditions will be held January 26th & 27th. This year’s play is Grease. Along the way as the tryouts are coming up it’s fun to watch people around the school practicing their tryout pieces. I can see all of the excitement in everyone’s eyes for this year’s school play. (P.S. This year’s play is going to be a lot of fun.) Sincerely, Taylor Peterson People are always planning ahead, trying to decide what they will do next and how this will benefit their lives in a positive manner. Here at Centre High School, we have a group of 15 outstanding students planning fun activities to keep the school close together and reach high standards. You know this group as your Student Body Council.
I talked to Tye Remy, the sponsor of the Student Council, about plans for the coming year and where we stand on the new bell system as to whether a change could be seen. When asked about plans for the coming year, he says “Student Council has certain things that it does every year. One change that we are looking at for this semester is that we are going to bring the Olympics or something such as that to Winter homecoming this year.” In the email, Tye states, “The administration has made new decisions about the bell over break. I would think that it is unlikely for there to be a change in the near future regarding the bell. It would be hard to get a change when there was quite a bit of work put into changes in the passing period bell over Christmas break.” Student Council had many thing they wanted to fulfill but were not able to and here is why: “The schedule during the first half of the year was not one that allowed Student Council to meet effectively as often as was needed. With the addition of seminar, Student Council is looking forward to being able to meet on a more regular basis. Momentum in certain projects seems to be picking up and we are looking forward to an effective semester.” Centre students will have an exciting year to look forward to. Spring is approaching and with it comes lots of activities and other school events. Let's have a great last semester! Cassidy Hill So I bet you're wondering what I’m going to talk about this week. Well, I’m going to talk about the first week back from break and how everyone handles it differently. Okay so let's get started by saying the first week after break is over. I know that may not sound like a big deal to most of you, but it is for us students here at Centre High School.
At Centre High School there are 85 high school students total. That means there were 85 students trying to get their sleep schedule on track before the first day back from break. For some people, I bet that it was easier than you think, but for others a bit harder. Also, being back from break, we have to get in the routine of having homework again. I know that all teenagers hate homework! But it will help us in our future careers. Don’t worry, students of Centre High School! You will all be grown up and out of high school soon enough, just try and enjoy the time you have now. P.S. Spring break is on its way!(: Sincerely, Taylor Peterson |
